Raleigh
Redefining travel through challenge and transformation.
Background
Since 1984, Raleigh has helped thousands of young people discover what they’re capable of through life-defining expeditions. Yet, in a world increasingly defined by instant gratification and curated experiences, its most powerful differentiator wasn’t where it took people – it was what it asked of them.
The challenge was to shift perceptions from Raleigh as just another gap year provider and bring it closer to its roots as a true expedition: real, demanding and, most importantly, formative.
How we got there
Through audience research and strategic development, we uncovered a simple truth: the experiences that shape us most are the ones we have to earn.
This became the foundation of the new brand positioning: earn it. A direct challenge to Raleigh’s audience, asking them to move beyond surface-level experiences and choose something tougher, more real and, ultimately, more rewarding.
Brand messaging
We developed a messaging framework inspired by the structure of a classic quest, positioning every venturer as the hero of their own story. The narrative follows a famous story arc: stepping into the unknown, overcoming challenges, proving yourself and returning home changed.
The strapline, prove your self, is a deliberate play on words, framing achievement as an active process of proving who you are through challenge and action.
Brand Identity
We brought Raleigh’s heritage logo back from the archives and carefully refined it, preserving its distinctive character while giving it a more contemporary feel. Its sense of history is balanced with a bold, angular primary typeface that adds challenge, grit and determination to the brand.
The photography embraces Raleigh's digital-free philosophy by taking inspiration from the spontaneity of film photography. Blurred images, light leaks, imperfect framing and unexpected moments are all welcomed. The result is a visual world that feels beautifully unguarded, capturing the raw reality of expedition.

Brand system
At the heart of the system are ‘story stacks’ – layered fragments of memories, moments and impressions collected throughout an expedition. Individually, they only capture a snapshot of the experience. Together, they build a richer picture, reflecting how Raleigh stays with people long after they return home, shaping who they are and the stories they tell for years to come. The system gives Raleigh flexibility to accommodate older alumni stories alongside more recent experiences, building a tapestry of collective memory.
Physical touchpoints and activations
To strengthen the sense of achievement and belonging, we introduced the idea of collectable expedition pins. Tactile and proudly earned, these pins become both a marker of personal progress and part of collective narrative that brings together Raleigh’s international community of alumni.
In Raleigh, we created a brand that’s meant to be experienced, not just seen or witnessed. Tactile and physical touchpoints really allowed us to bring this to life, creating a real-life manifestation of what it means to earn it; earning your place, your joy, and your badge of honour.
