With Sophie Peachey, freelance journalist and video producer

Join us for an insightful session with Sophie Peachey, freelance journalist and video producer, who has worked across some of the UK’s most influential newsrooms including The Times, The Guardian, The Standard, BBC Newsnight, PA Media and The Independent. Having also spent several years at The News Movement as Assistant News Editor and Correspondent, Sophie brings a rare perspective across both social-first and traditional national titles.

In this session, Sophie will break down how social coverage differs between social-first publishers like The News Movement and established national outlets such as The Times and The Guardian. She’ll explore how traditional news brands are evolving their social strategies, the formats and stories that perform best on different platforms, and how editorial priorities shift when content is designed for social audiences.

Sophie will also share practical advice for PRs on how to successfully pitch stories for social media coverage – including what journalists are really looking for, how to tailor pitches for different types of outlets, and how to increase your chances of landing meaningful social exposure in today’s fast-moving news environment.

Attendees can expect to hear:

  • How social-first publishers and national news titles approach social coverage differently, and what that means for reach, tone and storytelling
  • Practical tips on pitching social media–ready stories to journalists at both social-first outlets and traditional national titles
