Boldspace’s go-to summer reads

Martha Bowen

Running low on inspiration for your summer holiday read? No problem. We should have you covered, with a list of go-to summer reads courtesy of the Boldspace team.

We’ve all got different interests when it comes to a go-to read (it’s always been an issue when someone’s attempted to establish a Boldspace book club), so we thought we’d all put forward a recommendation that we’ve particularly enjoyed recently. Hopefully there’s something that appeals to everyone.

If we’ve missed something good, let us know!

Happy reading. Let’s hope this summer hangs around a little longer.

The Runway Species by David Eagleman and Anthony Brandt

Miruna Caraba ~ “Neuroscientist and composer exploring human creativity.”

Yellowface by R.F Kuang

Tom Yazdi ~ “Hilarious slow-motion car crash.”

I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys

Andreea Magiru ~ “Growing up I’ve always enjoyed listening to my grandma’s and mom’s stories about their lives in Communist Romania when they were young. This book came as such a big surprise to me as it captured so well their shared experiences, down to such accurate details. Ruta Sepetys is really good at immersing you in a historical period and giving you an insider’s view into her character’s lives and cultures.”

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owen

Lucie Chambeau ~ ” A fabulous tale of a runaway little girl.”

Big Beacon by Alan Partridge

Adam Larter ~ “(‘Lovely stuff!’ Not my words the words of ShakinStevens).”

The List By Yomi Adegoke

Martha Bowen ~ “Modern day social rollercoaster.”

Really Good, Actually by Monica Heisey

Neasa Barnes ~ “Hilarious diary of a 28 year-old divorcee.”

You Are Here by David Nicholls

Chloe Beckett ~ “Meandering tale of two lost souls.”

Nick Ford-Young ~ “Great British escapism.”

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

Mohamed Eltigani ~ “I don’t know why I’m doing this to myself, but it’s a beautiful book.”

Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss and Tahl Raz

Ndrew Poon ~ “A great go-to for an audio book.”

The Forgotten Highlander by Alistair Urquhart

Joe Misseldine ~ “Real account of a Second World War captive.”

I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson

Harleen Kaur ~ “I really love the dual perspectives and lyrical prose, which gives a heartfelt perspective to the story of two siblings, their bonds and self-discovery.”

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver

Jillian Sypkes ~ “A beautifully written story of a child who the world continues to reject but that you can’t help but love and root for.”

Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara

Jack Storry ~ “Will Guidara shines a light on the process that led to Eleven Madison Park, known for its exceptional hospitality, being named The World’s Best Restaurant. If you like the TV Show The Bear then you’ll love this (Guidara is co-producer of the show).”

Verity by Coleen Hoover

Danielle Player ~ “A real thriller – perfect summer page turner.”
