Cutting Through: What it takes to land a business story in 2026
Thursday 22 October, 2026
8:45am - 10:00am
National House, 60-66 Wardour Street, London
With Charlie Conchie, Deputy Editor, City A.M.
Join us for a morning with Charlie Conchie, Deputy Editor of City A.M., for a candid look at what it now takes to get a business story notice.
Charlie returned to City A.M. in 2026 after a year at Reuters as Mergers and Acquisitions Correspondent, covering dealmaking across financial services and the equity capital markets. He had previously spent three years at City A.M. as Chief City Reporter and then City Editor, covering the UK’s financial services industry, capital markets and corporate news.
In this session, Charlie will talk through the developments reshaping City A.M. – a new visual identity, the distribution partnership with The London Standard, a sharpened three-day print week and significant investment in video, audio and newsletters – and what each of those changes means for the kinds of stories the newsroom is now looking for.
He’ll then get practical. What makes a business story worth a reporter’s time, how to frame a corporate announcement so it reads as news rather than notice, when exclusivity is worth offering and when it isn’t, the value of good data and a credible spokesperson, and the common mistakes that see a well-intentioned pitch go nowhere.
Attendees can expect to hear:
- What City A.M.’s editorial changes mean in practice, and where the opportunities now sit across print, digital, video and newsletters
- Direct, practical advice on pitching business and financial stories – what earns attention, what gets ignored, and how to time it right
To join us, please RSVP to events@boldspace.com
Breakfast and refreshments will be provided.
